ECERDC, GEBENG WTP

The East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC) has been involved in various initiatives to boost economic growth and development in Malaysia’s East Coast Economic Region (ECER). One of the critical infrastructure projects under ECERDC is the Gebeng Water Treatment Plant (WTP). This plant is designed to meet the growing industrial and residential water demands in the Gebeng area, which is a significant industrial hub in Pahang.

The Gebeng Water Treatment Plant employs advanced treatment processes to ensure that raw water sourced from nearby rivers is treated to high standards of quality and safety. These processes typically include coagulation, where chemicals are added to the water to help impurities clump together; flocculation, where these clumps are further aggregated; sedimentation, allowing the heavy clumps to settle at the bottom; filtration, which removes remaining small particles; and disinfection, ensuring that any harmful microorganisms are eliminated.

With a substantial treatment capacity, the Gebeng WTP plays a crucial role in supporting the industrial activities in the area by providing a reliable supply of high-quality water. The plant’s operations are designed with sustainability in mind, implementing practices to optimize water use, minimize waste, and reduce the environmental impact of the treatment process.

The establishment and operation of the Gebeng Water Treatment Plant underscore ECERDC’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and ensuring sustainable development in the region. This initiative not only supports industrial growth but also contributes to the well-being of the local communities by securing a safe and consistent water supply.
